Refugees are leaving some parts of Germany: authorities revealed the main motive.

Introduction of new rules in the German social sphere
According to statistics, in regions of Germany where special payment cards with restrictions on cash withdrawal have been introduced, the number of asylum seekers leaving has increased. Bavaria, for example, has observed a 30% increase in voluntary departures. According to official data, from July to December 2023, the number of departures rose from 5,984 to 7,778 in the same period of 2024.
"Although the asylum seekers themselves do not name the reasons, the responsible service suggests that there is a strong connection," said the spokesperson for the Saale-Orla district.
The new rules stipulate that migrants cannot use money abroad or for betting in bookmakers. The payment card can only be used to pay for services and some goods, with cash withdrawals limited. Data also indicates that in regions with softer restrictions, the number of departures remains stable or even decreases.
An analogous situation is observed in Hamburg, which introduced a special card last year. There, the level of voluntary departures remains virtually the same as before the card's introduction.
Changes are also taking place in international politics. Recently, Germany refused asylum to most Russians of draft age who sought refuge due to the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine. Only 349 out of 6,000 Ukrainians received refugee status in Germany.
