European Championship. Pohorilko set a record for Ukraine but could not reach the final.

Ukrainian athlete Oleksandr Pohorilko participated in the men's 400m qualification at the European Indoor Championships. According to 'Hlavkom', the athlete set a new national record but did not advance to the semifinals.
Pohorilko is the champion of Ukraine-2024 and the national record holder in the 400m outdoors. At Euro-2025, he represented Ukraine alongside Tetiana Melnyk, who competed in the first round.
In the fifth qualifying heat, Pohorilko finished third with a Time of 46.32 seconds, but did not move on to the semifinals as he was edged out by Belgian Jonathan Sacoor by just 0.02 seconds.
Despite this, Pohorilko's time became a new national record. The previous record, held by Vitalii Butrym, was 46.45 seconds, set in 2018.
'I think it’s worth celebrating because it’s a good result. I prepared all season with the goal of achieving such a time. Last time, I fell just short, so at the European Championship, I directed all my efforts to surpass it. Since this was the last race of the winter season, there would be no more chances, so I tried to manifest myself fully on the distance,' Pohorilko said after the competition.
At the European Athletics Championships 2025 taking place in Apeldoorn, eight athletes advanced to the finals. Among them are two Ukrainians - Doroshchuk and Nikitin, as well as athletes from Italy, the Czech Republic, Finland, Turkey, and Germany.
The men's high jump final will take place on March 8.
