Men in the high-risk group: the doctor named an unexpected cause of early death.

Every fourth Ukrainian faces the problem of obesity, said endocrinologist Natalia Bezmen. She pointed to alarming statistics regarding the impact of excess weight on life expectancy in Ukraine.
According to data from 2019, 26% of the Ukrainian population has obesity. However, only 40% of them realize that they have obesity and understand the problem. Only 20% are engaged in treatment that does not limit itself to taking medications but also includes lifestyle changes.
Especially alarming is the 4% annual increase in childhood obesity. Childhood obesity is a serious issue that needs to be addressed.
According to the DALYs indicator, which measures the number of years of life lost due to obesity, Ukraine ranks second among European countries, second only to Bulgaria. It is important to be aware that Ukraine has a high percentage of obesity and leads among European countries.
Natalia Bezmen emphasized the danger of male obesity, which negatively affects health. Male obesity is characterized by fat accumulation around internal organs, leading to metabolic disorders and increasing the risk of atherosclerosis and vessel blockage.
Women are less prone to visceral obesity than men, but this problem remains serious for both genders. Treating obesity requires serious restrictions and prolonged physical activity.
It is particularly important for men to remember their health. Often, a calm lifestyle and insufficient self-care lead to weight gain and the development of obesity. It is crucial to be consciously aware of weight and appearance, regardless of gender and marital status.
