Lviv presented the updated project of the Heroes of Ukraine memorial (photo).

The Lviv City Council has studied the project of the memorial complex, which was developed in collaboration with the families of fallen soldiers and the public. The Mayor of Lviv, Andriy Sadovyi, reported that the complex will have a ceremonial zone, a burial space, and a wall of memory with the names and portraits of the fallen.

At the entrance to the memorial, the words of Maksym Kryvtsov will be engraved: 'When I am asked what war is, I will answer without hesitation - names.'

Moreover, the territory of the complex will feature a columbarium, a water body, a bell tower, and an angel. The central element will be a stone-carved angel, which will be visible only when light falls on it.

Architectural solution and concept

In 2024, an architectural competition took place for the memorial complex of military burials of the Heroes of Ukraine in Lviv. The winners were architects from Khmelnytskyi, who designed the project's concept. Additionally, the complex will include a park area, a museum, a monument to the unknown soldier, and other components.

The Ministry of Veterans Affairs emphasizes the requirements of the national military memorial cemetery regarding the burial of fighters for Ukraine's independence, as well as the possibility of reburial in a columbarium niche in other cemeteries.

The Mayor of Lviv presented the final project of the memorial complex, which features important details and elements, including a quote at the entrance and a specially carved angel in stone. The architectural competition was also noted, emphasizing the importance of the corresponding requirements for the burial of soldiers at the national military memorial cemetery.
