Employees of the Security Service of Ukraine detained two young men suspected of committing sabotage on behalf of Russia. According to the investigation, their task was to damage railway tracks in the Odesa region and 'Ukrzaliznytsia' facilities in Odesa region.
The criminals coordinated their plan with a curator from Russia, selected a section of the railway, and prepared the necessary tools. In January, they dismantled part of the railway elements on a 20-meter section and installed pegs on the rails. This could have led to catastrophic consequences - train collisions, passenger deaths, and destruction of cargo.
“The young men agreed with the curator on the sabotage plan, chose a section of the railway, and prepared the necessary tools. At the end of January, they dismantled part of the railway elements over a 20-meter stretch and installed pegs on the rails. This could have caused catastrophic consequences - derailment of trains, passenger deaths, and destruction of strategic cargo,” the prosecutor's office stated.
Both detainees have been charged under Articles 28 and 113 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, for which they face life imprisonment and confiscation of property. They are currently in custody.
The question of additional charges under Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine is also being considered.
