US President Donald Trump announced a new plan to supply weapons to Ukraine. In addition to the Patriot system, the US may provide the Armed Forces of Ukraine with other types of weapons, such as short-range and medium-range missiles, CNN reports.

The US plans to provide Ukraine not only with the Patriot system - what is known. Among other things, the US may sell NATO members short-range missiles, artillery shells, and medium-range air-to-air missiles, which will then be delivered to Ukraine.

Officials explained that Trump does not provide weapons directly to Ukraine for two reasons. First, it helps avoid political criticism related to the decreasing role of the US in the conflict. Second, it also has financial advantages, as each Patriot system costs about 1 billion dollars.

Additionally, Trump confirmed that Ukraine will receive 17 Patriot systems from the US for its Armed Forces. Furthermore, the possibility of supplying long-range JASSM missiles to Ukraine is being considered.
