Russia planned to attack NATO base with AWACS aircraft in Germany, - media.
German intelligence services have discovered Russia's plans for a sabotage at a NATO base in the German city of Geilenkirchen, reports Deutsche Presse-Agentur (DPA). The base is home to 14 Boeing E-3A AWACS aircraft that can detect enemy planes and targets.
Last week, the base raised its combat readiness level following a warning from the United States about a possible Russian drone attack. However, the readiness level has since been reduced to standard.
No official confirmation of this information is available, but the newspaper Zeit reported on the increased readiness level and the sending of base personnel home.
Additionally, Bild reported Russian Orlan-10 drone flights over northern Germany, likely surveying the industrial area in the city of Flensburg, which houses chemical plants and a non-operational nuclear power plant.
In January and February 2024, Russia lost two aircraft that are analogs of the NATO countries' Boeing E-3A AWACS. The circumstances of these crashes are unknown.
