Ukrainian Jumper Breaks World Record Among 12-Year-Olds
World pole vault champion Armand Duplantis said that Ukrainian athlete Matviy Strogalev has broken his record among 12-year-olds. Strogalev achieved the best result in this age category, improving the previous record set by Armand Duplantis, a two-Time Olympic champion.
At the Ukrainian championship for youth, Strogalev jumped to a height of 4.00 meters, which is three centimeters higher than the previous record set in 2012. At the same time, Duplantis set a new world record in Stockholm, jumping 6.28 meters.
„This is incredible. Yaroslav [Mahuchikh] showed me the video. I didn’t know he had broken my record. It’s great, I’m happy for him. I hope he continues to improve and enjoy the process,” Duplantis shared his impressions.
Matviy Strogalev is the son of a silver medalist at the World Athletics Championship and an Olympic participant. Duplantis also expressed a desire to compete with the Ukrainian athlete at international competitions.
According to unofficial statistics, Duplantis holds records in five different age categories, from seven to 11 years old. At 13, the highest jumper was a Norwegian who later became a bronze medalist at the European Championship.
