About three thousand graduate students who started their studies in 2023 have already been expelled from higher educational institutions. This was reported by the Deputy Minister of Education and Science Mykhailo Vinnytskyi in an interview for 'Khvylia'. The reason for the expulsions is that the graduate students did not meet their individual study plans, which was revealed during inspections at higher educational institutions. Mykhailo Vinnytskyi noted that these inspections are ongoing and a new wave of expulsions is expected in June, depending on the results of the current session and checks on the fulfillment of educational obligations. According to him, the latest amendments to the Cabinet of Ministers' resolution have made inspections more intensive in universities. However, Mykhailo Vinnytskyi emphasized that the main goal of the inspections is not to expel students. 'We are not witch-hunting, we do not want to expel students. If a graduate student is conducting scientific work, writing articles, conducting research, passing all exams, and so on - there are no problems,' he noted. The Deputy Minister explained that the main aim of the inspections is to identify those graduate students who are using graduate school for purposes other than intended and are not meeting the requirements they should fulfill. He also said that the ministry's remarks indicate that a significant number of graduate students who started their studies in the 2022-2023 academic year may not reach the defense of dissertations. This necessitates such inspections to ensure the quality of education and the targeted use of the graduate program. We also remind about military training for students: who will be required to undergo training starting in September.
