Drivers clarified the rules for using low beam headlights on a car
Ukrainian legislation clearly defines when to turn on low beam headlights on a vehicle. However, some drivers do not follow these rules, which poses a threat to road safety.
According to traffic rules, turning on low beam is mandatory in the following cases:
- While driving during nighttime (from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM) regardless of weather conditions.
- At any Time of the day under insufficient visibility conditions (rain, fog, snowfall, smoke).
- On slippery roads when the surface is wet, covered with snow, or ice.
- When passing through any tunnels, even if they have lighting.
These rules remain in effect in 2024. Drivers will be required to use low beam headlights on any roads with limited visibility to ensure the safety of all road users.
However, there are cases when turning off low beam is allowed:
- During daylight hours under good visibility conditions on regular roads (except for tunnels and poorly lit areas).
- On highways and outside the city during the day, daytime running lights can be used (if they are installed on the vehicle).
- When stopping or parking in places where the headlights do not interfere with other drivers.
Drivers should remember that violating these rules may lead to danger on the road and a fine ranging from 425 to 510 hryvnias.
